Kitten Week 2 - Siberians
This year's New Year's party had everything: good friends, good food, good conversation (and good alcohol, judging by the reactions of those that drink). That's OK, most parties had those things. However, this party also had kittens. The set is here.
This set also includes a few pictures of my photography assistants. Hopefully their parents don't mind. (Note that my photos of people are licensed differently from my others, a side effect of this is that you may not be able to download the full-sized version, sorry.)

"I has a kitty!" "I has a problem."

YAY!

Cats, as many have observed, are immune to gravity.

Someone just noticed that the toy does not move on it's own.

Now is the time in PhotoSet vhen ve dance

Do you ever feel like what you want is always just out of reach?

The one that got away

WANT!

My photo assistant is assisting.

So far as the others go, the trick is to use two flashes on the floor, pointing straight up. This turns the entire ceiling into an effective light source and works well for most shots. Then you just set the aperture to something smallish, focus, shoot and hope. About one in three shots turns out well, in the others, the kittens have moved behind something (often their own tails) or manage to move so quickly that they blur... even in the flash. (There are other photo tricks to use, but the flashes on the floor really seem to be the main key.)
For finding cats, I recommend getting a photo assistant to wave a toy around. That seems to work very well. :)
