Costa Rica

In case you didn't figure it out, I am posting my photos of the Costa Rica trip out of order. Today, we're at the beginning. After getting in to Costa Rica late at night, the next morning we spent several hours in a van on our way to The Sloth Sanctuary of Costa Rica, though we quickly renamed it to "The Slothery". (Well, to be precise, I renamed it... everyone else just humored me.)

This place, unsurprisingly, rescues slothes. (I prefer the plural with an e, because it matches cloth/clothes... the rest of the English speaking world disagrees... they're clearly wrong.) We learned a lot about slothes, and some of learned to smile the way they do. There was a small hiking trail nearby and the center bordered on a little river/canal thing. However, these photos are of the slothes and the grounds. It was a nice start of the trip, as I was able to relax a bit and just snipe away at birds with my long lens.

The set is here.

Was the one slot really that red? Did he have a bad day at they stylists?

Oh wow, I didn't know that. Most of the pictures I'd seen have them with what looks like moss growing in their fur. Go figure. A punk rock sloth! :)

I just figured it was the lighting. Shows what I know.

Those all look like you posed them like they were modeling.

If you're down and feeling troubled, NOTHING will help as much as Sloth-Smiling. It's like a magic happy pill. Do it now. You'll see.

K. [you should see my little lovey Sloth-Smiling]

Well, perhaps getting a nice, warm, furry hug from a sloth? ;)

Oh my good GOD. *overwhelmed by sloths* ... Isn't the world a brilliant place? It has sloths! I wasn't sure I could pick a favourite photo from the set, but then scrolled back through this post and took a good look at the one dangling upside down while nomming leafs from a basket chair and decided I have a favourite photo of anything, ever.

I rather like the way that word 'sloths' looks wrong without an e, but I hugely approve of 'Slothery'. I'm even tempted to rename this house.

I have to edit this to add that the photo of the flycatcher preening under its wing is a really nice shot. Most of the birds are fabulously well captured, of course, but they're all handicapped by not being sloth[e]s.

They are so relaxed! And flexible. I wonder if there is something different about sloth muscle fiber.

I particularly like the beefcake one of the sloth gazing into the distance holding some greenery over his shoulder.

The third one up looks like it's in Japanese art.

but you don't get to pick one to keep in your bed or anything. that would be better. they can't possibly be more pokey than pirate is.

that would be way better, renting one for the evening.

I love the Kilroy sloth the best, I think.
