Ledges State Park
Jun. 1st, 2008 01:53 pmLast weekend, I spent some time at Ledges State Park. While I was unable to do the canyon trail (closed due to flooding), I did walk to "lost lake" and then traipsed around a bit in the woods. The set is here, highlights below:

Flock of Turkey Vultures - The one shows all seven, but I had to twiddle it to black and white to make it acceptable.

Mosses - The cautious mosses stay further from the edges of the ledges.

Pond - Ledges is an odd place. You can see water to the East of you that is level with you, and then climb down about a hundred feet to where the river is. There are no waterfalls. This is one of the ponds.

Des Moines River - This is a spot that I think it would be neat to go to every day and get 365 shots reflecting the changing seasons. Alas, it is too far away.

Turkey Vulture - It stayed on that stump for hours (Looks better large)

Brave Bird - On a dare, this bird walked all the way to the end of this log which hangs over the lake. Brave though he was, it was not as terribly impressive as it might have been. Birds can fly.

Bird on a Branch by a Pond - I just like the composition here.

Snail - I just happened to have my tripod AND macro lens when this snail crossed my path. Thankfully, I also had my flashes, so I could freeze his movement.

Snail - I apparently need more practice setting up my flashes in the wild, but other than the blown highlights on the shell, I think this shot worked out OK.

Water - Not much to say here, it's just water. (Looks better large)
