Queen's Birthday Ants
Oct. 30th, 2010 10:23 pmI seem to have gotten out of the habit of posting photos. Here are some more from Costa Rica.
In Costa Rica there are these little critters called leaf cutter ants. Normally, they collect pieces of leaves and carry them in a long line to their underground bunkers where they feed it to fungus. There are different roles for different ants. The biggest guard the ants, the middle sized ones carry leaves and the tiny oneshitch a ride clean the leaf parts. They clear enormous paths so they can move as quickly as possible. They're all extremely hard workers.
( Even on the queen's birthday (yes, there are closeups of bugs here) )
