In December, I visited the Madison zoo a few times. It's not the world's best zoo, but to be fair, it's a free zoo, so there's not a lot of spare money to go around and I visit during and immediately after a fairly nasty storm, so it was remarkably difficult to walk around without slipping. It was also dark and a lot of animals were hiding. As a result, I didn't take many photos, and many of them aren't up to my preferred standard.

The set is here

My favorite is this bat:

Seba's Short Tailed Bat (Carollia perspicillata)_3
Seba's Short Tailed Bat (Carollia perspicillata)

Bats are hard to photograph due to rapid movement, low light and the fact that they're usually WAY the hell up there. To get this shot, I had to set up a (low powered) flash on my tripod to get it into position, then stand on a chair, on tiptoes and hope the focus would lock manually. The vampire bat from my Denver set (coming soon) is better, but I think this is nice too.
