The Name of the Doctor
Aug. 11th, 2013 10:48 pmI can't sleep until I post this bit of Doctor Who wonkery.
Did you know that The Doctor visited Germany in 1944 and that, while there, he went by Johann Schmidt, the German equivalent to "John Smith", as he is known in English? Moreover, did you know that, while he was there in his 7th incarnation, he overlapped with his 8th incarnation who also went by Johann Schmidt?
Why does that matter? Well, if the 7th was Johann Schmidt, that would make the 8th, Johann Schmidt II.
Which means that the Doctor's true name is likely Jacob Jingleheimer. Wikipedia says the origins of the song are obscure, just like The Doctor... and just what you'd expect if it was created due to name slippage during the accidental creation of an alternate timeline.
And now, you know.
(And maybe, just like me, you can't get the damn song out of your head.)
