Cats Laughing 2015
Apr. 12th, 2015 02:32 pmI am sure that others, more gifted in music writing, will cover last weekend's Cats Laughing concert better than I can. Suffice to say that I missed them the first time around, due to youth and distance. I did, however, grow up reading books and comics mentioning the band (and by the bad members), so it was nice to finally get to see a show ... and what a show it was.
I brought my camera and took a set of "official" shots that will be used as part of the fundraiser that helped this happen in the first place. What I want to talk about though, was the light. In the past, my camera and lenses haven't managed low light very well. However, with changes in both the technology, my skill level, and the post-processing tools, I no longer have to convert everything to black and white to make it work. Not only that, but I now have a Lensbaby Composer Pro with the Sweet 50 Optic which is really long name for a very basic idea. The idea being, "what if we made a cheap, crappy lens, that only focuses in a single point?" The answer being, you get a hell of a lot of awesome.

This lens blurs out all the distracting elements of a traditional stage shoot and just makes things look amazing. When you add that to the prismatic colour display going on, things just look great.
