Every once in a while, a CD comes along that I just can't stop listening to. Dala's Who Do You Think You Are CD has pretty much been on repeat play in one form or another since I got back. I've ordered the other CDs that I didn't have, which are now wending their way to me. Given the amount of time it's been since I ordered them, I'm guessing they were strapped to a moose and sent over the border, but it's OK. I have two to listen to right now, so I'm good. :)

Anyway, back to Dala. Simply put, the duo does harmonies really well. Really incredibly amazingly well, actually. The lyrics are understandable and don't hide behind the music as less vocally talented musicians sometimes do. However, the music is also quite good. Despite their vocal similarities to the Indigo Girls, these songs don't tackle social issues so much as personal ones such as perfectionism, maturity (and maturation), relationships, stardom, etc. Perhaps their new album goes a different direction. I'll know more once the moose arrives.

Photographically, the show was good too. One of the problems I have with doing photography at concerts is that all of the gear that makes people sound good also gets in the way. I didn't get many shots of Shelia, because of this. However, the angle was good for Amanda... which worked out well because, with the light wind, her hair seemed to dance along with their music. Seriously, if you added a third person on stage, it would have like attending a concert by the Gorgons. (And given that a portion of the audience was stoned, I think the metaphor works :)

The set is here.
