The zookeeper puts so much effort into filling the trees with food, and the birds just come by and undo all the hard work.

I could get right behind a faith that deifies the Zookeeper. What that says about my view of humanity, I don't know.

Great pictures, as ever. Woodpecker, omg. Does Minnesota Zoo glue their birds to the trees? I've never gotten a shot of a woodpecker in my life.

UK, yes. There are plenty around here (Worcestershire) - I've seen a lesser spotted in my own garden. I've heard them over on the common, and by the canal, tapping away behind the tree-line. I hear them laughing at me. What they won't do is come anywhere near me when I've got my camera out and un-capped. I could start to take it personally, if I wasn't busy trying to get a shot of the Jays that also inhabit the common and also refuse to cooperate. One feathered nemesis at a time, that's my motto.

I think it's all in the feed.

Woodpeckers like suet.
Squirrels like peanuts.
Bunnies like alfalfa (yes, I feed the bunnies in the winter).
Finches like thistles.
Chickadees like the little seeds.
Cardinals like the big seeds.
Everyone likes sunflower seeds.
Bluejays like what everyone else has.
