When I go to the Winnipeg Folk Festival every year, I bring my camera and practice. I normally don't shoot people, but WFF gives good opportunity to get shots I otherwise would not have. Sadly, in recent years, I've been a bit shier about taking photos than I'd like. I've been told that it apparently makes some people uncomfortable. While I don't want to do make anyone uncomfortable, I don't seem able to get one of those magic "Press" badges that puts people at ease. I try to find the balance of getting good photos and not being creepy. Wish there were a better way to put people at ease.
The set is here, and contains a lot of people most of you do not know and a few people that you do. I will be posting my favorite and some highlights as to why I like them. There is a mix of good moments, good shots of friends and art.
This is my favorite:

I like this because it captures both the joy and seriousness of being a little kid.

I like this shot because grasshoppers are cool, even if the grasshopper itself is not in the photo.

Here, there was a very important game being played that involved dead grass. I do not know the details, but over time, multiple kids got involved.

Art. I really liked how the shot of the woman's face pairs up perfectly with the shadow on the other woman's face. I never would have thought to create a shot like this, but now that I've seen it happen, I can think of all sorts of variations on this theme.

I just think that this is a good shot of Bruce.

It was an exciting time for all concerned.

This is more art. I have no idea who this is, but I wish I did so I could send her a copy. The light was just perfect in that moment. Note how it is reflecting off the tarp she's sitting on, so it lights the face evenly without turning the colour unpleasently. Rule of thumb... all tarps should be white, light brown or gold.

I don't know who this kid is, but I'm pretty sure she was in an E. Nesbit or Edward Eager story at the time I took the photo.

I just think Jess looks happy here, and that's nice.

I like this one because it captures the kid at that perfect moment when he'd been having fun, wasn't yet a total mess, and wasn't yet angry that he was being removed from the fun puddle. (Yes, fun is liquid, that's why it sometimes leaks from activities that should be fun, but is almost always present in small hollows in the ground.)

Art. A sudden storm resulted in unexpected drama.

Some people just enjoyed the storm.

Art. Again, the light just worked really well for me.
Finally, a bubble series:
