DSCI0020

This shows one of the biggest issues I had with the underwater camera. If I use it out of water, photos are almost always spotted with water droplets. If I use it under the water, I am pushed around by the current and can’t get focused on anything.

It probably works better in calmer (and more boring) waters. Maybe I’ll try it in a swimming pool or something.

Somehow this sounds more like a problem with the physics of the real world than a problem with the camera per se.

This is probably not at all helpful, but the problem of being pushed around by the water can be alleviated quite a bit by going deeper (i.e., free diving). Of course if you are using a cheap enough camera, once you get 6 feet underwater the damn thing starts to leak and then you have a different problem.

You can freedive while snorkeling. Amber and I learned how to do it from 70-year-old Cap'n Phil, who took us on a snorkel sail expedition. With a little practice I managed to get down 6-10 feet. At that depth it doesn't strain your lungs, although you do have to be able to hold your breath for 20-30 seconds.
