Photos - A brief hike in the woods

About a month ago (it feels oh so very long ago), I attended the Fourth Street convention in Minneapolis. As I anticipated, I got somewhat peopled out, and fled to the woods. The set is small, but it's here. It's also below, as there aren't enough photos to call out highlights.

Fuzzy Flower - They say that mammals evolved from reptiles. However, mammals are fuzzy, some plants are fuzzy, and NO reptiles are fuzzy. Scientists have been wrong before.

Reflecting Pool - If you step into this pool, be sure to have the right rings.

Dragonfly - Note that the two wings near the rear seem to take the most damage. That's why dragonflies have a spare set.

Landscape - Pretty colours that day

Turtle - She was just walking around minding her own business. While she was not thrilled with the camera, she was tolerant.

Leaping Fish - Evolution is a slow process taking millions of years to add new abilities. Fish are impatient.

Dragonfly - Be very glad that you are not a mosquito.

Date: 2008-07-21 03:24 am (UTC)Your fuzzy flower is campion (silene latifolia); your dragonfly is a twelve-spotted skimmer (Libellula pulchella); and your turtle is probably a painted turtle, though I am not really up on reptiles. No idea at all about the fish.

By the way, the bog reserve near Chicago that I mentioned at a recent gathering was the Volo Bog (info here as well). I think that you'd likely enjoy it, though it's a bit of a drive.

Date: 2008-07-22 05:50 pm (UTC)The bog reserve looks wonderful. I suspect it will be more of a "be sure to go there if we're in the area" than a "travel there deliberately," but you never know. One year there might be major road removal between Minneapolis and places like Itasca.
