Point Defiance Zoo - Otter week 1

Remember the Point Defiance Zoo set? Well, today starts... Otter Week.

Yes, this was the trip at which I scored the otter trifecta, and the African Small Clawed Otter and the Sea Otters were both at this zoo. I think I enough to fill the entire week, but we'll see.




Lowland Anoa (Bubalus depressicornis) - Negotiation (OK yes, not technically an otter, but remember these guys, they'll be important later)


Asian Small-Clawed Otter (Aonyx cinerea) - "Didja see that?" "See what?" "Is there something going on?" "What's going on?" "Well, if everyone else is going to look..."

Bubalus depressicornis sounds like a made-up name, bubaleh! Is one of those actually goring the other, or just pushing against the other one?

If I made a list of things I am grateful for, Otter Week would definitely be on the list.

I named Nanook after the polar bear because when he closes his eyes, his face disappears into white. He could definitely hide in snow, if we had any. But really, his most common expression is just like the otters. I should have given him an otter name. Like Harry or Leo.
