Winnipeg Folk Festival - Mirah

guppiecatOccasionally you see an artist that is pretty good on stage but whose CDs completely fail to match memory. Mirah is like that. I enjoyed her show enough to get a CD, and when I went there I found out that she also had a CD that was all about the natural history of insects. So, of course, I got them both. Upon listening to them, I was extremely disappointed.
Most of the music is mixed so that they sound the same. There's not enough variance within a song to hold my attention, so even though the lyrics are pretty good, I don't stay focused enough to actually hear them all. Worst of all, her insect album is extremely teachy. For someone that already knows something about insects and their life cycles, there's nothing good there. (Although Neil Gaiman disagrees.)
Ah well, you can't win them all... but at least I had fun taking pictures.
