Brookfield Zoo
Sep. 22nd, 2009 11:07 amMore from the Brookfield Zoo zet.

Orangutan (Pongo pygmaeus) - Apes have long arms. Even human apes.

Monkey - Sometimes when you stare that the precipice, it stares you back. Sometimes, though, it's a monkey instead.

Canada Goose - The best leaves are the ones out of reach of the babies.

Yellow Baboon (Papio cynocephalus) - Some apes prefer the solitude

Dinosaur - All the classy Apatosauruses wear ascots.
(Amusingly Firefox's spellcheck wants to replace "Apatosauruses" with "Brontosauruses". It must not have heard the news.)

Meerkat (Suricata suricatta) - Yes, it's an artificial environment, but I still like the composition.

Meerkat (Suricata suricatta) - I am monochromatic. I stand between my shadow and the light.

Common Grackle (Quiscalus quiscula) - Even when the world is composed of nothing but brick, the grackle has an elsewhere to be.

Lion (Panthera leo) - This is my number one shot in the goofy lion photo contest.

Date: 2009-09-22 07:39 pm (UTC)That's particularly true when I drop something to black and white or otherwise shift the colors around -- I'm trying to hide the fact that the light was really crappy. Of this subset, four of them were taken indoors with *partly* monochromatic light (which really sucked) and the rest were outside when it was cloudy and dismal. Added to the fact that Brookfield cares more about quantity than quality in their displays, options were quite restricted.
I wonder if it's the fake trees that give the silk painting feel. They look somewhat Asian, even though they're supposed to be African. (Again, crappy displays.)
