Winnipeg Zoo
Nov. 21st, 2009 09:28 pmMore from the Winnipeg Zoo set.

Blue Jay (Cyanocitta cristat) - He has an old football injury, but his parent's insurance didn't include chirobeakics.

Brown Eared Pheasant (Crossoptilon mantchuricum) - Once upon a time, as a young bird, he wanted to grow up to be like the Roc - guarding a nest and occasionally giving rides to adventurers. He finds his adult life as an insurance adjuster strangely unfulfilling.

Wood Pigeon (Columb palumbus) - Please. Do not send this bird into the graveyard to get a brain for the monster you are building. Nothing good will come of it.

Lion Tailed Macaque (Macaca silenus) - "I guard this pass! You dare to challenge me? I who once defeated the great dragon Komodoensis? I who, in my youth, frightened away the Ancient Catalepsic Myotonic Goat? I who, a great many years ago, scaled the heights of Ffynnon Garw? You choose me? . . . Eh, go on ahead."

Lion Tailed Macaque (Macaca silenus) - "Oh my god. It's full of stars." (Shortly thereafter, a bunch of humans started throwing wrenches around.)

Crested Screamer (Chauna torquata) - What is it with some birds being hatched all cute and fuzzy yellow, and others looking like some sort of naked alien baby?

Crested Screamer (Chauna torquata) - Remember the movie Mary Poppins? Well, if it had been made by Tim Burton, this is what her umbrella handle would have looked like.

Ring Tailed Lemur (Lemur catta) - "Mama? You awake mama? I had a bad dream that some weirdo was going around taking photos of me. I think it's the bogyman."

Ring Tailed Lemur (Lemur catta) - "Umm, mama? The scary bogyman is still here, even though I'm awake."

Ring Tailed Lemur (Lemur catta) - "It's OK, you're protected now, by Lemur MamaGuard (tm)." "Yay! I love Lemur MamaGuard (tm)!" (This photo sponsored by Lemur MamaGuard (tm))

Date: 2009-11-22 04:18 am (UTC)These are all wonderful, though I think my faves are the lion-tailed macaque and the ringtailed lemur ones. Lemur MamaGuard(tm), indeed.
Poor bluejay. I guess he can still eat, though.
The brown-eared insurance adjuster is interesting. I confess, I have not thought much about bird ears till your photos--the tuftsi owls, and now this guy.

I was not fast enough, nor could I get a good angle on the action. Canadian zoos have a lot more bars and mesh in the way, so photography there is more difficult.
