Jul. 23rd, 2005 09:33 pmWell...
My basement now smells like a swimming pool in Florida.
In case it comes in handy later, bleach kills mold and orange oil dissolves old glue.
However, the demolition went well and the braces are installed. Much to my surprise, the mold is worse on the walls than on the floor. The floor is actually in very good condition. The two long walls are in about the condition I expected, but the two short walls are in a tad worse shape. Hopefully, the braces on the long walls will hold the short walls in place.
The next step is getting the outlets in that room safe to use again, so I can put the dehumidifier back when it will do the most good. After that I am seriously thinking about finding some sort of powered paint stripper and removing the paint from the block walls and concrete floor. The idea being to strip away what I can so I can bleach the raw blocks and start patching and painting. Any advice from someone with experience on this would be appreciated.
Also I now have proof (ish) that the basement is effecting my allergies and colds. While I was wearing my Darth Vader mask I didn't have to cough at all. As soon as I removed it, the cough thing started up again. Aside from the cost issues, I think that doing this is the right thing to do, as I should be able to live more healthily when it is done.
In other news, I have helped [friend] with his resume. It is a *lot* stronger now and I think it will get him the interview. It's up to him to pass the interview, but if he does the prep work he says he will, I think he has a fair shot.
In other other news, I started watching my new (to me) DVD of the Last Unicorn. I had *no* idea how many big name (now) stars were in it. I also didn't know that Beagle wrote the screenplay himself. It makes me more impatient for his new short story. I wish small presses were actually able to ship orders on time.
