Blue Froggies

A couple months ago, I went to my local zoo to take photos of the Panamanian Golden Frogs... which were sadly absent from their display. I am assuming that they were on vacation.

Instead, I took photos of the other frogs that were there. The set is here. The blue ones were particularly annoying, as one of them kept trying to eat a grub, and I kept barely missing the action. Frog tongues are FAST.

Wow. I'd always seen psychedelic frogs portrayed in cartoons and such, but I never realized they really were that color.

azureas! the NCG theater has a ginormous set up with this and similar subspecies of "poison arrow" frogs.

Are they all like that, or did some manager think "Hey, if I keep all my froggies here, I can write them off as a business expense!"

I love that first pic - he's got a 'blue avenger' pose going on. I think the big black dot on his nose is particularly awesome.

They become toxic through their dietary intake. Captive froggies are non-toxic.

Yes, I know. Frogs aggregate the toxins from the ants they eat. No wild ants == no toxins.


These ones, however, don't turn into princes when kissed. They turn into whiney teenage emo kids. Kissing is contraindicated.
