Costa Rica - Monteverde Cloud Forest
Aug. 4th, 2010 12:06 pmWe went to the Monteverde Cloud Forest to see quetzals. I was kinda meh on quetzals, because seeing a brightly coloured greenish bird in a dark greenish forest when one is colourblind is somewhat underwhelming. Later, I saw one in the sun for about a second, and then I understood what the big deal was. However, no good photos of quetzals this trip. Sorry.
However, I did take other photos there. The set is here.

This is a mot-mot. You can see neither mot nor mot. Sorry.

These are gnome ladders. I don't know the name of the plant, but it's fairly obvious what it's function is.

And you thought the plastic slinkies were crap.

This spider just joined the drama club to get dates, but then found out it was quite good at it.

When you walk by these, they roll out quickly and conk you on the head. You then slowly decompose and release nitrogen into the soil.

Surface tension is neat

Itchy coati

Red eye fly

They say the other six dimensions are curled up just like this.

Gwan, get outta here

And here's my best quetzal photo. *sigh*

Coatis may be better than sloths. I'm falling for their flat nose-ends and ridiculously tiny ears.

Date: 2010-08-04 06:10 pm (UTC)I love these, especially the surface tension, the gnome ladders, and the dramatic spider.
The quetzal does give a glimpse of what splendor they must possess.
