Hummingbird Week
Aug. 16th, 2010 11:48 amHappy hummingbird week everyone. Today we look at this set.
After a hike where it started to rain, we wandered by a place where they were feeding hummingbirds. The light was remarkably bad, but the hummingbirds were remarkably tame, so it worked out. I started with the lens I had with me, and then ran to get a faster one once I saw what I was dealing with.

These are not, technically, hummingbirds.

These guys were ginormous.

The wacky colour and graininess is due to the low light.

Skinny bird

Hummingbirds in the rain

They've learned to share

The curved design of the bill makes it easier to slash at opponents while on horseback.

Landing gears extended

Did I mention that the hummingbirds let us pet them?

Time for a well-deserved rest.
