Blank Park Zoo
Jun. 4th, 2012 04:59 pmWhen I went to Des Moines for the booksale, I also took a bit of personal time and went to the Blank Park Zoo. I used to go to that zoo a lot, but stopped about a year before I moved away from Iowa. So much of my time was being spent traveling that when I was home, I was processing photos from others zoos and didn't want to go to my "home" one. It was interesting to visit. It had changed a bit, but not much. A lot of zoo changes seem to be superficial, just tidying things up but not really expanding the collection. I suppose this is OK, as I'd rather be somewhere with a few happy animals than a lot of sad ones. Still, it would have been nice if the frogs had still been there. I'm guessing something infected the tanks because everything was being restarted. Anyway, the set is here. There are no titles or funny captions, as I'm pushing to get caught up with processing.

These are not zoo frogs. They are Iowa-native frogs and they were about five elephants away from me... I love my big lens.

The male lion passed away a couple weeks before I got there. The two lionesses are now alone.

Drama bird is over-saturated... but I like how it looks anyway.

I like the translucency you can see around the fish.

"The frogs...were about five elephants away" LMAO I have a new measure of distance!

I do, however, know how big the average elephant is. :)
