Sweetwater Wetlands Park

This was the park I was at with my family when we got news that my grandmother wasn't going to make it. It took a few years, but I could finally process it and think about the birds, not that last phone call.

Sometimes I don't see the effect of reflection until after I take the shot.


However, sometimes, I do.


When I flew to DC, it felt like our landing was like this.

I want, some day, to go out in a deserted lake on a boat and just try to get pictures of ducks and geese landing and taking off. Ideally, this would be with a custom lucite box to waterproof the camera so I can get the shot at a duck-eye angle.

I adore #2! The textures are gorgeous. I've long been a fan of abstract water reflection pictures. (I'd probably like it just as well, or maybe even better, without the duck, but that's just me.) I've got a beautiful sunset reflection picture of reeds and clouds in front of my desk.

You're an amazing photographer. How many pictures did you take to get photo #1?

Not that many, actually. Make ducks have a behavior pattern where they rear up and flap their wings 3-7 times. It was just a matter of waiting until it was my duck's turn and then flipping the camera into "auto" mode.

I had several where the wing was in the wrong position and was either not-recognizable as a wing or was covering the head, but one of them timed right.
