More than two years ago, I took a trip to the Niabi Zoo. This is a tiny little zoo on the Illinois/Iowa border that only recently achieved AZA accredidation. It is hard to do good photography there, as the animals that you can get close to are in bad light and the ones that are far away have numerous layers of mesh and bars. Their cat facility is particularly difficult. They are apparently extremely concerned about their cats getting out.

The set is here.

Here is my favorite:

I'm not sure the colours are exactly right. 2+ years is a long time to remember specifics.

There's a bit of blur in this one that, interestingly, I think makes the photo better.

I like that I got the pincers in this shot. (Still not sure why they're not called "pinchers", since that's what they do.)

Dinner!

Like Sodium and Potassium, sparrows react with water.

Birds evolved from dinosaurs. This means that some dinosaurs probably had colours like this. (I also have high hopes that some of them built bowers.)

I like how you can see the spots.

The tribunal sits in judgement over you.

You should have brought hay.

I like the spider. The parrots are lovely. The horned creatures in the last shot (dunno what they are) are majestic.

Dunno why, but your link to Barbary sheep didn't work. So I went to Wikipedia, did a search for Barbary sheep...and the link that's in my browser now is identical to the one you gave me. Weird!

Yeah, I didn't *think* that bug was a spider, didn't look like it had enough legs.

Anyway, lovely shots, as always!

Nothing to apologize for, just wanted to let you know.

I like the smile on the duck.

Is that a melanistic leopard or a breed that always looks like that?

Feline belly spots for the win! The colorful dinosaur descendants are splendid. But I think my favorite is the sparrow bathing.

I love that the first parrot looks like it's hiding behind it's cape! How super hero of them! Or possible vampirish. La! :)
