Phoenix Zoo 2010
Jan. 8th, 2013 10:15 amThe Phoenix Zoo is touted by the zoo guides as one of the five best zoos in the world for children. I have to say that, based on my limited experience, I agree. They manage a good mix of fun and education and the animals are fairly visible in most enclosures. For someone like me, this is a multi-day zoo, but the average family could make a day of it and be fairly happy.
In 2010, I took a trip there and here is the set.
This is my favorite:

I like this one because it has an almost glamour shot quality to it, but it's of a kittycat*.
* Cheetahs are not exactly kittycats and will sometimes eat your face. Tummy rubbings are discouraged.

Prairie dogs are notorious cheapskates and refuse to invest in both an angel and a devil, opting instead to contract the services of a fly to give both good and bad advice.

Burrowing Owl (Athene cunicularia) - Burrowing owls have trust issues.

Bunny - Every time I visit the South West, I see more bunnies than anywhere else. I must conclude that their chameleon circuit is dysfunctional.

Bird - I like bird in flight shots. Hopefully my new camera will do a better job of focus tracking.

Bighorn Sheep (Ovis canadensis) - You will believe a sheep can fly.

Arabian oryx (Oryx leucoryx) - There are more Aradian Oryx in the American South West than in Arabia. This is what emergency conservation looks like.

Stripey Kittycat* - He wants a big sparkley fuzzy ball.
* Also not really a kittycat. More likely to eat your face than a cheetah.

Common Squirrel Monkey (Saimiri sciureus) - They call them "common", but I only ever see them in zoos.

Common Squirrel Monkey (Saimiri sciureus) - Tongue shot!

Maned Wolf (Chrysocyon brachyurus) - These are my favorite wolves.

Cheetah (Acinonyx jubatus) - Alternate cheetah shot.

Koala (Phascolarctos cinereus) - This isn't a great koala photo, but it is the first time I ever saw a living one, so it's special to me.
