Feb. 4th, 2007 08:29 pmContinuing my photo sets from flickr.
I visited the Quad City Botanical Center. Like zoos, botanical centers are very different in the winter than in the summer. For one, I only saw two flowers the in the whole place. Also, like zoos, they do a lot outside of the structure, and I'm just not willing to brave the cold to get good winter shots. I expect to go back in Spring/Summer and get some better plant pictures.
If you're interested in the whole thing, here is the set otherwise, continue below for highlights.

Pacific Parrotlets - They kept moving on me. I trashed a lot of photos.

Pacific Parrotlet - You just *know* he wants a cracker.

Society Finch - To get this shot, I had to hover about six inches off the ground, put my tripod on the surface of a pond, and make an odd twittery noise to get him to look at me.
At least, that's how it felt.

Koi - I think that this is a decent shot for not having a polarizer.

Banananananana tree trunk - I had no idea that they were so fiberous.

Holding light - I love how this one turned out.

Turtle - Right after I took this shot, he slipped off and fell into the pond. I think he's part wobbly.

Pond - The surface was in constant motion, due to koi. I used a really small aperture, and a really long shutter speed to approximate a glassy feel to it.
