So, the Henry Doorly Zoo has a jungle that you can go in. By the time I got there, it was getting late, and dusk was falling, so some of the pictures didn't turn out as well as I'd like. Also, I had skipped lunch (I was distracted by fuzzy animals, fancy that), so I got tired. Interestingly, I can tell the difference in photo quality when I didn't eat right. I'll have to do better about that.

Duck Breast Self Examination - You can never be too careful... even if you're not mammalian


Monkey - This guy reminds me of my dad.


Two-toed Sloth - (Edit: Thanks to morphia for the correction)
In particular, notice the leg in the bottom right corner. Yep, the SLOTH was moving too fast.


Scarlet Macaw Making a Pen - Well, what else could he be doing?


Common Marmoset - Apparently Larry Fine was a marmoset. And a fairly common one at that.


Ring-tailed Lemur - Unlike most shots of lemurs, I think that this one makes the lemur look somewhat intelligent. At one time, evolution was poised to where either lemurs or simians could have become the dominant form of intelligent life. Obviously the simians won, but it makes you wonder what it would have been like had it gone the other way.


Clouded Leopard - This is the first clouded leopard that I've seen in daylight(ish). The others have been in night exhibits, so the most you can see are some splotches in the black. Here, it's amazing to see the pattern and how amazingly long his tail is.


Monkey - I couldn't see what he was looking at. Maybe it was a man in a yellow hat.


Bat - Close up of the bat. I had to use a flash here, so it was another case of blind focus. The bat was in shadow, but the ambient light was also dark as dusk was falling. I think it turned out OK.


Douroucouli - I had never heard of this guy before, so I had to look him up when I got home. He's apparently also known as a "night monkey" Interestingly enough, they have no colour vision. I have no idea how you determine that in a monkey.

that sloth is actually a two-toed...all sloths have three toes on their back feet; the two-toed guys have two toes on their front feet.

trust me: i am a TOTAL sloth dork.

Thanks for the correction. I'd rather be accurate than not. However, I do have to ask how you ran across my journal? No biggie if you don't want to answer, I'm just curious.

ok, remember when i said i was a total sloth dork? i wasn't kidding. i have a google alert set up that emails me once a day with any new references to sloths (and a few other animals i'm obsessed with). there was a link to this entry in one of the alerts a few days ago. sorry if it creeped you out...
