I had a corn snake as a pet, once. I liked him enormously well, except for his diet, which was...difficult. I think he may have liked me, insofar as something without any of the brain structures that allow critters to like other critters can like anybody. He was a red rat snake, or corn snake, not a red corn snake. I guess these are different species? As best I remember, he was an elaphe elaphe guttatus... I might have that right. And possibly the pet store had it wrong. Pet stores are not the best source for Linnean lineage information.
