How your car works

Five different people apparently needed these reminders this morning... and I have a seven minute commute.

There are some rare occasions when brake and gas need to be applied simultaneously -- the specific condition I'm thinking of is

- On a hill facing up
- In a manual transmission car
- Brake on while shifting into gear
- Brake ever so slightly while starting to apply gas, so as not to roll backward until beginning to move forward

At least, that's what I was taught when I learned to drive; it may be that I was taught incorrectly.

In general, though, I agree with all your points and wish that fewer people needed to be reminded of them.

Oh good grief. Yeah, that's pretty awful.

I had someone try to change lanes into me the other day, but I was able to brake and swerve out of his way.

Or perhaps they were fooled by the omission on the diagram of the bit that deals with path planning and reacting to environment (aka, brain).

I was always advised not to pass people driving like that.
